Jesus is a Senior Frontend Developer here at Flo Recruit. He works behind the scenes to ensure that all of our customers have great interactions with our product through the user interface. We couldn’t be happier that he’s a part of our team --keep going to see a Q&A we had with him!
I started working here in July 2021 and entered this role with the intention of gaining new experiences, which is exactly what I got. On my first day, my laptop was already set up, and I was able to write code while contributing to projects, which has never happened before. The team celebrated once I finished my first project, which was an incredibly rewarding experience, and it really set the tone for the future. Any first-day nervousness I had was quickly resolved because of how energetic, passionate, and welcoming this team is.
As someone who has always been passionate about higher education in general, joining Flo represented an opportunity for me to help students and schools. And by working here, I really feel like I’m making a difference. When we design our product, we put a lot of thought into making sure that each touchpoint a customer has with our technology contributes to the broader, positive experience they have when they use our platform. As a result, there is a lot of back and forth during design meetings to really ensure that we are getting it right. This culture of detail-orientedness allows for me to really leverage my skills in a way that is both meaningful for me and the end user.
My specific role on our team revolves around working on keeping the frontend up to date and creating a frontend framework that follows engineering best practices that the whole team can use. At the end of the day, we are all on a joint mission to build out the best possible product and keep it that way, so everyone is naturally insanely collaborative! There isn’t a day that goes by when I’m not talking to someone whether it’s to ask a question, brainstorm, or problem solve.
I love our end-of-day meeting every Monday. We call it our “RFBSQOTD,” which stands for “random, fun, but short, question of the day.” Basically, we are all given a random question then split into groups to answer it. It’s such a small thing, but it speaks volumes about the kind of company Flo is and how much we care about getting to know each other better.
I recently worked on a big migration project to keep our technology stack up to date. Being able to coordinate that within the team and get it running within the timeframe that we did was truly an impressive feat. And I can see the tangible effects of that project every day in the delivery speed of new features and bug fixes, as well as in the way our product has a consistent look and feel on all ends.
In all honesty, I love to code! I will spend some time here and there coding up personal projects, playing League of Legends, and watching horror movies.
